My travel article about Obudu in The Guardian newspaper

I've heard people say something like 'You spend ages waiting for a bus then two come at once' and it seems that's what has happened to me as regards having my travel articles published in newspapers.  I had the travel article I wrote about Obudu published in The Guardian of July 6th, 2013 and  I was thrilled!

My travel article about Calabar in This Day newspaper

I've been writing my travel blog, www.lapesoetan.com for over 2 years now but I've also been wanting to reach audiences who don't really go online (and there are many in Nigeria) so I was very pleased to have my travel article about Calabar published in the This Day newspaper of April 27th, 2013.  Here's to seeing my writing in many more places on-and off-line :-)

Writing is a trip

I love travelling and I love writing.  Combining the two is a no-brainer for me so when the opportunity came up to write about my trip to Dubai for True Love West Africa magazine, I grabbed it with both hands (although I’m right-handed).  Here’s the article that was published in the magazine.

In 2010, True Love West Africa magazine became Flair West Africa magazine.  While many things about the magazine (like its look and feel) changed, I was invited to continue writing for the magazine.  Here are some hair and beauty articles I wrote that appeared in Flair West Africa magazine.

Over the years, I wrote several beauty articles that were published in True Love West Africa magazine.  Some of my articles were even syndicated in other editions of the magazine like True Love East Africa.  Here are a few of my beauty articles:

True Love at First Sight

One day, while sitting in a traffic jam, I noticed a vendor selling a magazine I had never seen before.  The cover was glossy and bright making me think it was a foreign magazine but on the cover of the magazine were 3 Nigerian actresses.  My mind was confused – a foreign magazine with Nigerian actresses on the cover?  I asked the vendor how much the magazine cost.  He said N500.  I thought that was an inexpensive price for such a great-looking magazine so I bought it immediately.  The magazine was True Love West Africa.  As soon as I read the magazine, I knew I wanted to be part of it.  My first beauty article was published in the May 2005 issue of True Love West Africa magazine.  Here it is.

Writing on property is a difficult skill to build but I did it

One of my first jobs was as a writer and PR Manager at an IT firm that ran a property search engine.  In the course of the job, I got the main product, the search engine, mentioned in a newspaper and also had some articles on property published in a newspaper.  Making property articles easy to understand and fun to read is difficult but I managed it.  Here are a few of the articles I had published.

Here are some more of the articles I wrote that appeared in NAPE News, the official magazine of the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE).  These articles were written and published while I was in university.

My First Published Article

The very first article I ever had published was called ‘Beauty, Adventure and Geology in Alaska’ and it appeared in NAPE News in late 2002/ early 2003.  NAPE News is the official magazine of NAPE (Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists).  I studied Geology, remember? 

Anyway, I was the student editor of the magazine and when the article first appeared, I showed it to my entire family and basked in the admiring noises they made.  I felt like a celebrity.  Of course, an article of mine appearing in NAPE News (even if my picture also appeared in the magazine) hardly made me a celebrity.  Fortunately, nobody pointed that out to me though.
